Struggling with gum disease and wondering if a dental implant is still possible? Your smile deserves a strong, healthy foundation, and while gum disease can pose challenges, it doesn’t mean hope is lost.

At Train Station Dental, we specialize in restoring oral health, treating gum disease, and creating a plan to rebuild your smile so you can eat, speak, and laugh with confidence again.

Can I Get a Dental Implant if I Have Gum Disease?

Unfortunately, if you have active gum disease, you must undergo treatment before we can safely and effectively place a dental implant.

Because gum disease can weaken your jawbone and gums, patients with gum disease are at a higher risk for implant failure. A dental implant fuses with your jawbone, giving it the strong foundation it needs so you can chew all your favorite foods and speak correctly.

The good news is that we can often treat your gum disease and then proceed with the dental implant procedure. During your consultation, we’ll review your needs. If your jawbone isn’t strong enough for a dental implant, we may recommend a bone grafting procedure to help you achieve sufficient density.
