When we take a digital x-ray, instead of the traditional film you hold between your teeth, we use flat, comfortable electronic sensors. The sensors produce highly detailed images that are stored securely on our in-house network.

In just a few moments, we can both look at the images together as they are displayed on your chairside monitor. You become an active part of your treatment because your doctor can point out the problem so you can understand the need for treatment.

For patients who have past dental conditions, we usually recommend bitewing x-rays that show upper and lower back teeth once a year. Otherwise, we take a full set of routine x-rays every five years, again, depending on your needs.

Panoramic Digital X-Rays

In addition to routine digital x-rays, we also have a panoramic x-ray unit that takes extra-oral (outside the mouth) x-rays. As you stand in place, the camera rotates around your head and takes pictures of your entire mouth in one image.

Using a panoramic x-ray allows our doctors to see your teeth and all supporting structures, including your jaw, giving us a detailed view of the overall condition of your oral health. We have found that panoramic x-rays are perfect for adults and kids who can’t have intraoral (inside the mouth) x-rays taken.
