Sedation dentistry options at our Audubon, NJ, dental office include:
Oral Conscious Sedation
With oral conscious sedation, our dentists prescribe a sedative medication to take at home about an hour before your appointment. When you arrive at Train Station Dental, you will experience the sedating effects, including relaxation and drowsiness.
The medication stays in your system for several hours, so you will remain calm and comfortable throughout your procedure. You will be conscious and awake, but your mind and body will feel very relaxed, and some patients even drift off to sleep.
Sometimes, we mix conscious sedation with nitrous oxide for the ultimate relaxation.
Because the sedative remains effective several hours after treatment, you will need a friend or family member to safely drive you home from your appointment.
Nitrous Oxide or "Laughing Gas"
Nitrous oxide is a popular form of dental sedation because its effects are mild and short-lived. We administer nitrous mixed with oxygen through a small, comfortable breathing mask.
In a few minutes, you will feel calm, dreamy, and unbothered by the sights and sounds around you. A trained team member will monitor you throughout your procedure and can increase or decrease the flow of nitrous as needed for your comfort.
After your procedure, we switch off the flow of nitrous, allowing you to inhale pure oxygen for several minutes as the drowsy effects dissipate. Shortly after, you can drive yourself home or continue the rest of your busy day.
