Preventive Services

The most powerful tool we have against serious oral health problems is prevention. You can do a lot to protect your own oral health with proper hygiene and healthy eating habits, but any prevention plan must include regular visits to your dentist for exams and professional cleanings by a dental hygienist. By working together, we can ensure that you enjoy a lifetime of excellent oral health.

At Train Station Dental, we offer a wide range of preventive services and treatments designed to help safeguard your oral health. We practice preventive care that respects the connection between a healthy mouth and a healthy body. Both are taken into account when creating a preventive treatment plan for any patient.

Prevention and Your General Health

Regular dental exams with Dr. William Judd and Dr. John Savon are essential for monitoring your oral health and finding problems before they cause discomfort and damage your oral health.

Numerous studies now indicate a relationship between chronic diseases of the mouth, like gum infections, and complex general health concerns like heart disease, respiratory disease, diabetes, arthritis, and dementia.

Periodontal disease is a serious oral health concern, and while preventive treatments protect your oral health, they can also reduce the risk of developing complications associated with these general health problems.

Comprehensive Dental Exams

Comprehensive exams every six months are invaluable for protecting your oral health. During these visits, we look for signs of potential problems that may impact your oral health in the future.

Using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools like digital x-rays and cavity-detecting technology, we can easily address small concerns before they result in pain and additional expense. Our intraoral cameras allow you to see what your doctor sees so you can better understand the need for treatment.

Since your general health and well-being are also important to us, every exam includes a screening for oral cancer. Using fluorescence technology, our doctors can identify abnormalities in their early stages, resulting in better long-term prognosis.

Dental Cleanings

Plaque is a sticky, bacteria-filled film that forms on your teeth and around your gumline throughout the day. When allowed to remain on your teeth, plaque hardens into a substance called tartar, also referred to as calculus. Brushing and flossing remove some of this buildup, but twice-yearly professional cleanings are needed to eliminate it completely. Once tartar builds up, only a dental hygienist can remove it.

Your hygienist will remove all plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line, floss your teeth thoroughly and finish with a polishing to leave you with a squeaky-clean smile.

Protect Your Oral Health with Sealants and Fluoride

Sealants – A dental sealant is a thin coating of protective plastic applied to the chewing surfaces of molars that have deep natural grooves. These areas can be difficult to clean thoroughly, but a sealant smooths them over, making them easier to clean and eliminating rough surfaces where bacteria and food particles can collect.

Fluoride – Appropriate quantities of fluoride are one of the most effective ways to safeguard the oral health of your whole family. Applications of topical fluoride help make your teeth more resistant to the damaging effects of plaque, bacteria, and sugars that linger in the mouth.
